By: Austin Mendes

Old Colony finished the month of September with a 3-0 record

ROCHESTER,MA-

The Cougars went through the month of September with a convincing 3-0 record. They played Bristol Plymouth, Cape Cod Tech, and Wareham High School. The final scores all were in the Cougars favor, 20-14; 38-6; and 46-0, respectfully.

The entire team has played well throughout the first month of the season. As voted on by random, here are your September Players of the Month:

Offensive Players of The Month:

Chris Egan and Ryan Silva

Egan and Silva led a strong combined rushing attack for the Cougars

The carpentry duo led the Cougars in rushing during the month of September. They combined for 74 carries for 625 yards and 9 touchdowns.

Egan:

Chris Egan has been the workhorse for the Cougars throughout the month of September. On the ground, Egan has accounted for 45 carries for 366 rush yards and 3 rushing touchdowns. On the ground, the junior is averaging 8.1 yards per carry. Chris has gotten it done through the air as well, accounting for 5 of McGuiggan's 9 completions. Egan throughout the month of September has had 5 receptions for 73 yards and 2 touchdowns. Egan's totals for the month is 50 touches for 439 scrimmage yards and 5 touchdowns. Egan has improved a lot and has been extremely coachable. He is a hard working player who strives to get the best of himself and others.

Silva:

Ryan Silva is a scoring machine for Old Colony. The junior has scored 6 touchdowns through the month of September, including 4 in their 46-0 victory over Wareham High School. The junior running back has totaled for 29 carries for 259 yards and 6 touchdowns throughout the month. Silva has been dominant throughout the three games, he has hit the holes hard and has been a bruiser for the Cougars high powered rushing attack. Silva is a hard working player who has his teammates' backs. He leads by example.

Defensive Player of the Month

Joseph Rubini

The senior linebacker has led a dominate Cougar Defense

Rubini:

The senior captain has been disruptive for opposing offenses throughout the month of September. Tallying 2 sacks in the span of 3 games, Rubini also has a number of tackles for loss, as well as a large number of tackles on the year. (I don't have the exact statistics). Rubini has led the Cougar defense to allow a total of 20 points on the year. This is the second year Rubini has been a starter for Old Colony. He was a rotation player for the Cougars his freshman and sophomore years as well. Rubini is a player who leads by example and puts the team first. As a former teammate of his, he is the definition of a team player, and he is the kind of player you would love to have on your team.

Special Teams Player of the Month

Shawn Markham

Markham serves as the team's punter and punt returner

Markham:

The sophomore WR serves on all three phases of the game. On offense he plays wide receiver, defense safety, and special teams he is the punter and punt returner. Markham served as the varsity punter his freshman year as well. Throughout the month of September, Markham has landed two punts on the opponent's one yard line. The sophomore has also had some big punt returns to give the Cougar offense great starting field position on their drives. Markham plays big roles in the field position battle throughout games. Shawn is an extremely talented player who continues to fine tune his craft. He has added a number of skills to his arsenal.

Scout Players of The Month

Luke Meelia (Offense) and Tom Fulton (Defense)

The sophomores have been a key part of the success of the varsity team

The Old Colony varsity team couldn't prepare for the teams they play every week without a strong showing from younger players every week. These young guns show up every week having to learn a complete new playbook for the teams they play. As voted on by their teammates, these are the scout players of the month:

Meelia (Offense):

Luke Meelia is a sophomore in the electrical department at Old Colony. Luke is a wide receiver who gives the starting defense a great look every week. The route running and catching ability of him helps prepare the secondary for the varsity receivers they will match up against on Friday Nights. Along with his showing on the offensive side of the ball, he has shown poise playing on the defensive side of the ball. Luke is a player who strives to be the best he can be everyday. His ability to preform at a high level everyday lifts the team around him as he gives 110% everyday.

Fulton (Defense):

Tom Fulton is a sophomore in the automotive department at Old Colony. Tommy is a defensive lineman who is very skilled and a hard worker. Tommy disrupts the Old Colony offense and gives a great look for coaching points. Tommy is a rotational player on the offense and defense for varsity. During my time playing, the amount of times I saw him make the play in practice proved he is a special player. The sophomore is hard working and a leader for underclassmen.

The Old Colony Cougars host the Upper Cape Tech Rams on Friday, October 1st for their 2021 homecoming game.
