The Atlanta Braves have announced that top prospect pitcher Jared Shuster, had made the 2023 Opening Day roster.
Shuster, 24, is a native of New Bedford, Massachusetts. Shuster attended New Bedford High School where he posted a 6-0 win-loss record, and a 0.45 earned run average in his freshman season. Following this, he completed his high school career at Tabor Academy located in Marion, Massachusetts. At Tabor Academy, he went 2-1, with a 1.88 ERA, 3-2 with a 2.40 ERA, and 4-3 with a 1.26 ERA and 64 strikeouts in his sophomore, junior and senior seasons respectively.
Shuster attended Wake Forest University where he continued to put up great numbers. In the 2020 Major League Baseball draft, the Atlanta Braves drafted Shuster with the 25th pick, making him the seventh first-round draft pick in Wake Forest history.
The southpaw worked his way up through the Atlanta Braves organization in two seasons, where now he will join the major league team in Atlanta for the start of the 2023 season. This is following the Braves placing pitcher Kyle Wright on the injured list to start the season. Jared Shuster and fellow prospect Dylan Dodd will pitch out of the rotation to start the season.
Jared Shuster joins a stacked Atlanta Braves highlighted by 2020 All-MLB First Team pitcher, lefty Max Fried, star right hander Spencer Strider, and veteran Charlie Morton. Shuster will continue to battle Dylan Dodd for the fifth spot in the rotation.
