Old Colony's Cheerleading Team

Old Colony's 2021 Fall Cheerleading Team
Old Colony RVTHS-
With the biggest group in recent memory, the Old Colony cheerleading team is led by a senior and two juniors. The captains are Melanie Gould (Senior; Health Careers), Kathleen Simoes (Junior;Health Careers), and Addison Lafountain (Junior; Health Careers).
The coach of the cheerleading team is Rylie Taveira, a graduate of the health careers program at Old Colony in the class of 2019. During Rylie's time at Old Colony, she was on the cheerleading team and softball team. Rylie is the older sister of Junior Wide Receiver Trevor Taveira, and daughter of Old Colony math teacher Kelly Taveira. She is a graduate of Bristol Community College with an associate's degree and is currently working.

- Sophomore: Maddy Caplette; Health Careers
- Sophomore: Alora Correia; Cosmetology
- Freshman: Madison Burnham; Currently in Exploratory
- Freshman: Ella Morgado; Currently in Exploratory
- Freshman: Addison Tyler; Currently in Exploratory
The team has athletes across the board. Melanie Gould and Maddy Caplette are both softball players, which is coached by Head Football Coach Brandon Mendez. Kathleen, Addison Lafountain, Addison Tyler, Ella Morgado, Madison Burnham, and Olivia Meelia play lacrosse, coached by Assistant Football Coach Sam Botelho, Tayla Proulx plays cross country, coached by Old Colony math teacher Marcie Gamelin. Alicia participates in all star cheerleading. Hayley is a dancer, and Ava Candito is a former volleyball player. Brianna has been a cheerleader for a long time. Kaylee is a gymnast, and this is Alora's first year cheerleading. "Her improvement is great." (Captain Kathleen referring to Alora)

The large numbers is exciting for the the three captains. "We are able to have more stunt groups, and have a more complex routine." said Captain Simoes. "We can fill our sidelines with loud, peppy cheerleaders to help support the boys this season." All the captains stressed the importance of the numbers they have this year. "Many new girls have joined and I love watching them experience and understand high school cheerleading." Captain Lafountain continued with these points. "We have high hopes this season and hope it can be one for the books." said all three captains as they closed.

Throughout the football season, the cheerleading team does multiple fundraisers. Every home game they hold a 50/50 fundraiser which helps benefit the team. During October, they sell breast cancer bracelets to help support and raise awareness in the community.
An often overlooked member of Old Colony athletics always look for a positive impact on the community around them. Whether you hear them on the sidelines, or see the stunts they pull during their performances, the Old Colony cheerleading team is a team that looks for your support. They are always there to support those around them and get the team going. Catch them Friday, September 24th at 7 PM at Oliveira Field as Old Colony takes on Wareham. Go Cougars!
