Cougars line up on defense

ROCHESTER, MA -

The owners of the second longest current winning streaks in the state traveled to match up against the Cougars on Friday night. Blue Hills played Old Colony the year before in a scrimmage prior to the Fall II season, now both teams had a chance to show what was built on from then.

Blue Hills struck first in the matchup with a 10 yard touchdown run by Aidan Montez. Following a defensive stop, Reese Felder scored to put the Warriors up 16-0 over the Cougars.

A failed onside kick from the Warriors resulted in Old Colony starting with the ball at the 50 yard line, from here, Junior RB Jake O’Neil would score his first varsity touchdown on a 44 yard run. Bringing the Cougars within 10 of the Warriors.

Blue Hills put up another touchdown on their ensuing drive, bringing the score to 24-6 at halftime. Prior to the half, Shawn Markham would score what seemed to be a huge momentum shifting touchdown, but it was called back on a controversial holding penalty.

Blue Hills opened the second half with a score, bringing the game to 30-6. With another stop, Blue Hills would increase their lead again, until the Cougars scored off of a rushing touchdown by Junior Chris Egan, two point conversion by Ryan Silva.

The following kickoff would be returned for a touchdown by Blue Hills, bringing the score to 42-14, where it would end with Old Colony’s first loss of the year, and the Warriors extending their winning streak.

PLAYER OF THE GAME

Junior Jake O’Neil

The Cougars had moments throughout the game with flashes. A notable one would be from Jake O’Neil, his 44 yard score would be the first of his career. O’Neil had several rushes for good yardage, as well as a few returned to gain a good chunk of yards.

WHAT’S NEXT?:

Old Colony looks to bounce back next week on Friday night in Hannover, MA against rival South Shore. Old Colony lost the prior 3 matches against South Shore, which were in the 2019 season, as they did not play in 2020. Game is at 7 pm on the 22nd of October at South Shore Regional Voke Tech.
